If you’re trying to figure out the best time of year to move in Highland Lakes, you’re already ahead of most people. A lot of folks call us at the very last minute and then realize that weather, school schedules, HOA rules, and even South Florida traffic can make a huge difference in how stressful (or smooth) their move feels.
I work with moves all over Miami-Dade and Broward, and Highland Lakes has its own little personality: quiet, residential, HOA-driven, and very much “suburban South Florida.” So let’s walk through the seasons, the local quirks, and what actually matters when you’re choosing a moving date here.
And if you decide you’d rather not stress about it at all, my team at United Prime Van Lines can handle the planning, packing, moving, and even storage so the date works for you instead of against you: https://unitedprimevanlines.com/
Highland Lakes isn’t South Beach. It’s a gated, family-oriented, mostly single-family home area just west of Aventura, tucked between I-95 and NE 18th Ave. That setup changes how a move feels:
For Highland Lakes, winter is hands-down the most comfortable time to move in terms of weather.
Here’s why a lot of locals quietly prefer winter moves: temperatures are milder (often 60s–70s), humidity is lower, and rain is usually less intense. Your body—and your furniture—will thank you for not being drenched in August humidity. From a mover’s perspective, we’re more efficient in January because we aren't fighting the heat.
But it’s not perfect. December is busy for personal schedules, and Snowbirds coming into South Florida can make certain complexes and storage facilities busier. HOA offices might also be harder to reach around Thanksgiving and New Year. If you can avoid the last two weeks of December and aim for mid-January to late February, that’s usually a sweet spot.
Who Winter Moves Work Best For:
Spring is what I call the “balanced” season for moving in Highland Lakes. Weather is still relatively decent, hurricane season hasn’t started, and you have longer daylight hours to load and unload.
Rain starts creeping in—not full-on rainy season yet, but afternoon showers pick up. Booking starts to tighten as you get closer to June because many families start preparing for end-of-school-year moves. My personal take: if you want to avoid both the dead heat of summer and the holiday rush, picking a late March to early May weekday is one of the best timing decisions you can make.
Let’s be honest: summer in Highland Lakes is intense. Heat, humidity, daily afternoon storms, and hurricane season are a lot to handle. But it’s also the most requested time of year for moves because of school schedules and lease cycles.
If you have to move in summer, try not to leave booking to the last minute. With United Prime Van Lines, we suggest locking in your date early so we can build the best crew and timeline for your house move.
Fall in Highland Lakes is often overlooked, but it can be one of the best times to go. You get a post-summer cooldown, and because kids are already in school, the chaos of peak summer moving is over.
Hurricane season is still active through November 30, so we watch forecasts closely. Some people also get locked up with holiday prep by mid-November. If you want to balance OK weather and lower stress, late October through mid-November is a very comfortable window.

For families, I usually recommend we handle full-service packing the day before moving day so the kids’ rooms are the last packed and the first set up.
Beyond picking a month, the day of week and time of day matter.
We move in the rain all the time. We use moving pads and shrink wrap to protect furniture and adjust our loading order if lightning hits. However, for actual storms and hurricanes, safety is the priority. We may need to reschedule if roads flood or winds become hazardous.
If a storm does threaten your move day, having a moving company with secure storage as a backup plan is invaluable.
